Influence of Sintering Technique on Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of CNTs/HAp Composite

Abstract: In this paper, the influence of different sintering technique on mechanical properties and microstructure of CNTs/HAp composite was studied. The mechanical properties of CNTs/HAp composite sintered in vacuum is more higher than that in Ar or N2. The increasing range of fracture toughness is the biggest. The maximum is 2.2 MPa·m1/2 which is higher than that of the pure hydroxyapatite. We found that the composite is very pure by XRD and IR. After sintered in vacuum at 1100℃, CNTs/HAp composite has less pore and more thin grain , at the same time, the diameter of CNTs will be enlarged. After sintered in Ar or N2 at 1100℃,the CNTs in composite can easily be preserved in its primitive shape but the composite is more porous and grains are bigger.
