Synthesis,Crystal Structure and Antimicrobial Study of a New Copper(Ⅱ)Complex

Abstract: A new Cu(Ⅱ)complex was synthesized by reaction of 5,5-diphenylimidazoline-2,4-dione(phenytoin,Hpht),bis(3-aminopropyl)amine(bapa)and copper acetate.Its crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.The compound crystallizes in the triclinic system,space group Pī with a=0.84190(10)nm,b=1.37540(15)nm,c=1.5622(2)nm,α=86.038(3)°,β=82.542(2)°,γ=83.904(2)°;V=1.7807(4)nm3,Mr=729.32,Z=2,F(000)=766,Dc=1.360 g/cm3,μ=0.666 mm-1,the final R=0.0685 and wR=0.1306.Cu(Ⅱ)locates in a N5 coordination environment and forms a distorted trigonal-bipyramid.The complex was valued for its antimicrobial activity against some bacteria in vitro.It was found to be active against the four test bacterial organisms.
