Abstract: The structure and performance of lightweight spherical mullite, whose main constituent is bauxite, have been investigated for its chemical and physical phase compositions, macro and microstructures, and high temperature performance. The results show that SiO2 and Al2O3 are the main chemical components and mullite is the predominant mineral phase.Pillars of the spherical particles present on the surfaces of the mullite crystals are observed in an interweaved configuration. The material is porous, with a packing density of 1.60 g · cm-3 bulk density 1.75 g ·cm-3 and porosity 38; The material become refractory at temperatures greater than 1790 ℃ and exhibit a thermal conductivity of 0.245 W · m-1 · K-1 at 800 ℃.the Residual rare of spherical of 95; by 5 repeated thermal shocks (water-quench experiments) for Mullite light spherical material.
