Abstract: A new dinuclear copper(II) complex [Cu(pht)_2(ba)_2]_2 was synthesized using 5,5-diphenylimidazoline-2,4-dione, benzylamine and copper acetate as raw materials. The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, IR spectrum and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P_1~- with :a=1.0554(15) nm,b=1.2012(17) nm,c=1.4893(2) nm,α=93.24(2) °,β=102.14(2) °,γ=91.79(2) °,V=1.840(5)nm~3,F(000)=814,Z=1,Dc=1.408 g·cm~(-3),μ=0.648 mm~(-1), the final R_1=0.0973 and wR_2=0.1929.Each Cu(II) is a N4O1 coordination environment with the coordination number five and forms a distortional tetragonal pyramid. The complex was valued for its antimicrobial activity against by agar diffusion method in vitro. It was found to be active against the four test bacterial organisms.
