Abstract: Single-crystals of a new complex [Cd(SCN)Cl](TCCC), with dimension of 10 mm×7 mm×4 mm, were grown via slow temperature-lowering method from aqueous solutions using NH_4SCN and CdCl_2·2H_2O as reaction sources; The as-grown [Cd(SCN)Cl] crystals (TCCC) were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, EDS, TG/DTA, X-ray powder diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results showed that the molecular formula of the as-grown crystal is Cd(SCN)Cl and it crystallizes in Pnma space group of orthorhombic system, with cell parameters a=0.95967(7) nm, b=0.42595(3) nm, c=1.01789(7) nm, V=0.41608(5) nm~3 and Z=4. Thermal analysis revealed that the crystal exhibits good physicochemical stability up to 190 ℃, and the final residue of thermal decomposition is CdS. Solubility of the complex [Cd(SCN)Cl] (TCCC) has been determined for various temperatures adopting the gravimetric method. The mechanical properties of the crystals have been studied using Vickers microhardness tester and the hardness was 78.6 kg/mm~2.
