Bridgman Growth of Oxide Scintillators for Industrial Applications

Abstract: Scintillation crystals have been extensively used in high energy physics ,nuclear medical image and radiation detectors. High performance, large size and lower cost scintillation crystals are requested for these industrial applications. In the present work, we reported recent progress on the Bridgman growth of bismuth germanate ( BGO ), lead tungstate PbWO4 (PWO) and tellurium dioxide ( TeO2 ) crystals in Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The advantages and limits of the modified vertical Bridgman method for mass production of oxide scintillators have been discussed also.
