Study on Gelcasting Process of Zirconia Gel

Abstract: Ultrafine zirconia ceramic was prepared by gel-casting.The slurry with high solid and low viscosity was obtained by using small molecule PBTCA (2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid)as dispersant.The effects of the content of dispersant,the ratio of monomer to cross-linker and the content of initiator on the properties of green and zirconia ceramics were discussed.The results show that when the solid content is 50vo1;,the viscosity of slurry is 0.86 Pa · s with 0.2wt; dispersant added.When the ratio of monomer to cross-linker is 15∶1 and the dosage of initiator is 2.5wt;,the green bodies have the flexural strength of 29.56 MPa.After sintered at 1520 ℃,the density of zirconia ceramics can reach 5.96 g/cm3,and the flexural strength is 828.46 MPa.Through SEM observation,the structure is uniform and compact.
